Lanell Smith is the Director of Operations at Good Energy Collective, where he leads people operations and financial oversight to support the collective’s mission of advancing equitable clean energy solutions. With a background in leadership development, talent management, and nonprofit operations, Lanell brings extensive expertise in building high-performing teams, operational systems, and culture-driven workplaces. His work fosters inclusive organizational structures and ensures efficient resource management to drive Good Energy Collective’s impact in the clean energy space.
Prior to joining Good Energy Collective, Lanell served as Director of People and Culture at Chiefs for Change, where he led talent acquisition, professional development, and employee engagement strategies for a national nonprofit focused on education leadership. With a strong foundation in leadership coaching and HR strategy, Lanell has contributed to strengthening people-centered policies that enhance workplace effectiveness and mission alignment.
At Good Energy Collective, Lanell is responsible for overseeing operations, finance, and people and culture initiatives, ensuring alignment between organizational growth and strategic priorities. He holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from Northeastern University. Lanell is also a SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), bringing a research-driven and strategic approach to organizational leadership and workforce development. He is passionate about creating sustainable workplace practices that empower teams and foster innovation.
When not immersed in operations and strategy, Lanell enjoys coaching emerging leaders, facilitating professional development workshops, and exploring ways to advance equitable workforce practices in mission-driven organizations.
